I just opened my shop in Liskeard!

So, I have just opened up my very own shop in Liskeard! It’s been a whirlwind few weeks and a lot of work but I knew that this was the right place for me to be. The people were so welcoming and I felt safe there.

The unit itself was just a shell when I took it on and it needed so much work! A whole front was built from scratch, so much painting has been done. So very many coats of paint and let’s not talk about the taking apart of my workroom at home and what that’s felt and been like!

I always wondered if I would be alright with having people watch me at work so when the opportunity came this year to take my sewing machine to one of my markets with Artisan Crafters I thought it would be a good test! Turns out I get so in the zone I don’t really notice people watching me at all. There’s a big difference between sewing on a badge back and actually having people watch me at my machine.

I then had the wild idea to continue it further and actually get serious about what I wanted. I always wanted my own shop for as long as I can remember but to make it work it had to have lots of factors slot in just the right ways like a giant puzzle piece.

It couldn’t be too dark, the ongoing expenses had to be manageable especially so with other plans I have for the new year ;-), I needed to have flexibility with my opening hours so I could still do markets and workshops but most importantly I had to feel safe enough being there which is often my biggest hurdle with living with PTSD.

This place just seemed to slot right into where it needed to, even with all the work it needed. I’d done really well trading at my first festival so I decided to go all in and invest in doing it up! I had to wait a couple of weeks to get started due to my schedule and the fact was I didn’t want to lose the unit so I threw that deposit down!

Yesterday the Mayor of Liskeard came down and opened the units officially. A lot of very hard work has gone into these units at The Old Brewery and it really feels like it is being transformed into the butterfly it deserves to be! I’m really happy to be a tiny part of that journey.

Hopefully I can see some of you either at my shop, one of the many markets or even at one of my workshops!
